Synopsis Volume one (which is a revised reprint of a book first published in 1997 that sold 10,000 copies) covers a wide variety of 4WD tracks (some of them very tough indeed). The book has no photographs but includes a free CD which has photos taken all along the routes and details for the GPS user. (This was intended as an additional selling point, but I suspect it is a bit beyond the average 4WD driver.) The author, Andy Cockroft, is very well known and active in 4WD circles. The North Island books have always been slower sellers than their South Island equivalents because there just aren't that many good places to go to, though one would think there are more 4WDs in the north. Maybe they are all stuck in traffic jams in Remuera.
